President Droupadi Murmu Wednesday released the digital version of the Constitution of India in nine languages during Constitution Day celebrations at Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi, news agency PTI reported.
Addressing the event at the Central Hall of the Old Parliament building on the occasion, Murmu called the Constitution a “guiding document to shun colonial mindset and adopt nationalistic thinking”.
The nine languages in which the digital version of the Constitution was released were Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia and Assamese. It is the first time that the Bodo and Kashmiri editions of the Constitution are being introduced in the history of India. The Punjabi edition of the Constitution is also being updated after almost 50 years.
Addressing the event at the Central Hall of the Old Parliament building, now called the 'Samvidhan Sadan', on the occasion, President Droupadi Murmu called the Constitution a "guiding document to shun colonial mindset and adopt nationalistic thinking".
Murmu also released the digital version of the Constitution of India in nine languages during the occasion. "Our Constitution-makers wanted our personal, democratic rights to be always protected. Constitution is a guiding document to shun colonial mindset and adopt nationalistic thinking," the president told the attendees at the programme.
In her speech, Murmu said, "By abrogating the provisions of Article 370, the nation has been freed from a prideful political obstacle. Women-led development will commence through Nari Shakti," while highlighting that "India has presented a new model of development for the world."
"Bringing 25 crore people out of poverty is one of the biggest achievements of the country. Women, youth, SC, ST, farmers, middle class, new middle class are strengthening our democratic system," she told the attendees of the programme.
“In our Constitution, social justice has been given priority. Efforts are being made to promote inclusive development in accordance with the ideals of social justice. Such initiatives include providing reservations to Economically Weaker Sections in educational institutions and employment; enacting and implementing a special Act for differently-abled persons by expanding the definition of the Act; and granting constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes,” she said.
The President said the ideals that express the soul of the Constitution are: social, economic, and political justice; liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Murmu highlighted that by “curbing the social evil of triple talaq, Parliament has taken a historic step towards the empowerment and social justice of our sisters and daughters”.
