Sangwan, who established the Healing Himalayas Foundation for the purpose nearly seven years ago, told PTI on Sunday that the prime minister mentioning his campaign during his past radio broadcast boosted his campaign. The Haryana native interacted with Modi during the 100th episode of the programme, broadcast on Sunday.

Congress takes dig at PM Modi as his radio broadcast marks 100 episodes

The Congress took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday over his "Mann ki Baat" radio broadcast, saying the occasion of its 100th episode was heralded with great fanfare but it was "maun ki baat (silence)" on critical issues such as China, Adani, increasing economic inequalities and the wrestlers' protest.

Just ahead of the airing of the programme, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh tweeted: "Today is FekuMaster Special. The 100th day of Mann ki Baat is being heralded with great fanfare. But it is Maun ki Baat on crucial issues like China, Adani, increasing economic inequalities, price rise of essential commodities, terror attacks in J&K, insults to women wrestlers, non-fulfilment of promises made to farmer organisations, corruption in so-called double-engine state governments like Karnataka, conmen with close links to BJP, etc." "IIM Rohtak does some doctored study on Mann ki Baat's impacts while its Director's academic credentials have been questioned by the Ministry of Education itself," Ramesh said.

The Congress, from its official Twitter handle, also took a dig at Modi, alleging that he has been silent on issues such as Chinese aggression, unemployment, price rise, charges against industrialist Gautam Adani's business conglomerate and women's security. (PTI)

Opinion | Mann ki Baat@100: Inspiring Tribal youth

The nation is celebrating the 100th episode of the popular radio programme, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On this occasion, I congratulate the PM on the roaring success of the programme. Mann Ki Baat has been an important platform where the PM interacts with the people, including from tribal communities, understands their concerns, shares his personal experiences and creates awareness on important issues. It has been a great source of inspiration for tribal youth and motivates them to contribute to the nation’s progress. As India celebrates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the progress, development, and achievements of our nation speak volumes of our potential and global position.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Mann Ki Baat acted as a channel for educating the public and encouraging vaccination. It is largely responsible for the success of India’s vaccination story. That alone is sufficient testament to its importance and relevance. Tribal health being the prime focus, the government is committed to eradicating Sickle Cell Disease by 2047 through awareness creation, universal screening, and counselling through collaboration between the Centre and states. Improving the quality of life of tribals through interventions in safe housing, access to clean water and sanitary facilities, enhanced education and healthcare, livelihood support, and cultural aspects, our efforts have always focused on implementing schemes that adopt a habitat-level development approach.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi connects with countrymen on the last Sunday of every month through ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Even in ‘Mann Ki Baat’, he has always worked to encourage sports and sportspersons. The Prime Minister’s mantra for us has been that instead of taking shortcuts, we must achieve excellence on the strength of our hard work. Neither victory nor defeat is the last step for us.

Through ‘Mann Ki Baat’, sportspersons from far-flung areas also become aware of the PM’s sports-related policies. Today, the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ is going to be aired. Opinion | Mann Ki Baat: A conversation that millions of Indians look forward to

Dynamic changes have taken place at a dizzy pace on the audio-visual landscape. While these changes are by and large technology-driven and global in their sweep, one revolutionary change occurred nearer home in India when the Prime Minister, for the first time in the history of Indian broadcasting, gave the nod to the nation’s public service broadcaster, for Mann Ki Baat, his informal, intimate exchange of ideas and thoughts with his fellow countrymen. As the 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat draws near, it is time to look back at the unique monthly radio address, which started in October 2014 and has had a memorable run.

It began as a curious communication phenomenon where a leading, tech-savvy politician indulges, ironically, in a strictly apolitical conversation on a seemingly obsolete medium. It has now become a part of India’s cultural zeitgeist and entered popular lexicon. When you say ‘Mann Ki Baat’ there’s hardly anyone who won’t get what you are talking about, such has been its impact. Its popularity is not without reason — it has had some significant moments.

It is tempting to ask, in today’s world, why did the Prime Minister choose radio? The reasons are not far to seek. Radio is an intimate story-telling medium. There cannot be a more potent instrument for such a candid, yet warm and uninhibited exchange of ideas between the country’s Prime Minister and the people of his country. And, AIR’s reach is stupendous, with about 600 channels carrying the programme.

As broadcast followed broadcast, attracting applause not only at home but abroad, the BBC and NPR requested us to permit dissemination in those parts of the world where most other modes of broadcasting are second to radio. (Illustration by C R Sasikumar)
