PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana: Ahead of the release of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana’s 19th Installment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that nearly Rs 3.5 lakh crore have been credited to the bank account of farmers under the scheme.
The Prime Minister wrote on X that the initiative is giving “respect, prosperity and new strength” to the farmers and that the agriculture sector has developed rapidly.
He said that the financial aid offered to millions of small farmers have helped increase their access to the market, while bringing down costs incurred and increasing their income.
PM Modi is poised to launch the 19th installment of the scheme during his visit to Bhagalpur, Bihar. According to the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Rs 22,000 crore will be disbursed to 9.8 crore farmers. Last year, the number of beneficiaries were 9.4 crore, as per Chauhan.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Rs 475 crore will be given to 20.87 lakh farmers in Assam – 10 per cent more than the last instalment. The PM will also visit the Northeastern state on Monday following the inauguration of the Global Investment Summit in Bhopal as part of a three-state visit.
‘As he lands in Assam in a few hours from now, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shru @narendramodiji is sending an advance gift to the farmers of Assam-the 19th installment of #PMKisanSammanNidhi’, the Sarma wrote on X.
The number of beneficiaries nationwide has increased from 1 crore farmers since the first installment in 2019. However, from June 2023 to May 2024, 1.16 lakh farmers gave up the scheme with Bihar leading the chart (29,176).
Introduced in the 2019 Union Budget session, the supplementary income initiative offers Rs 6000 to each beneficiary annually in three installments of Rs 2000 every four months.
In January, the Centre made it mandatory for new applicants to obtain a farmer ID for enrolment into the scheme and has set a target of creating 6 crore farmer IDs by March.
