Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Wednesday met Dashmat Rawat, a labourer from a tribal community — who was seen being urinated on in a video — and washed his feet at his official residence in Bhopal.
“Seeing that video pained me. I apologise to you,” Chouhan told the man during a brief conversation, in which he also asked about his job and family. The conversation took place after the CM washed the man’s feet, applied tilak on his forehead, garlanded him and also presented him with gifts.
Calling the man “Sudama”, Chouhan said, “Dashmat, you are now my friend.” Chouhan interacted with him on various other issues too and enquired if the state welfare schemes were reaching him or not, news agency PTI reported.
Earlier, the CM and Rawat together planted a sapling at the Smart City Park in Bhopal.
The three-month-old video of the main accused, Pravesh Shukla (30), urinating on Rawat in Siddhi district recently went viral and sparked a political firestorm in the state. The Congress has targeted the ruling BJP on the issue, saying Shukla is a BJP leader and is an associate of Siddhi MLA Kedarnath Shukla. The BJP has distanced itself from the accused and rejected claims that he is a member of the party.
Following this, Madhya Pradesh Police arrested Shukla on Tuesday and slapped the National Security Act (NSA) on him. The MP authorities demolished a part of his residence on Wednesday.
