The government of India has constituted a 16-member panel to look into the health issues and needs of tribal people in the country and submit suggestions to improve healthcare for them.
Health activist from Gadchiroli Abhay Bang has been named the chairman of the panel that will have 11 non-governmental experts and five government officials,read a press note issued by Society for Education,Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH),a health NGO by doctor couple Abhay and Rani Bang.
The panel has been given the task to study the problems in reaching healthcare to tribal parts,quality of service,its different ingredients,how to maximise the use of available resources,using statistical data for better management, lack of human resource,implementation of various existing schemes,needs of tribals in sensitive areas,etc, the press note says.
The other non-governmental health activists and experts included in the panel are Yogesh Jain (Jan Swasthya Sahyog,Bilaspur),Dilip Mawlankar,Ahmedabad,Sundaraman,Sunila Vasant (Ranchi),Beck H (TISS,Mumbai),Joseph Marianus (Kukur Adiwasi Kendra),Niru Singh (Jabalpur),H Sudershan (Karnataka),F Ram (Mumbai) and Niyodomo Angami (Nagaland).
