Madhya Pradesh School Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said on Thursday that a chapter on V D Savarkar would be added to the school curriculum.

“Veer Savarkar is one of the great revolutionaries…He contributed to the Indian Independence movement… Unfortunately, the Congress did not teach about the true revolutionaries of India. Foreign revolutionaries were said to be great, but not our own patriots. We will include biographies of true heroes and the new syllabus will include Veer Savarkar, Bhagavad Gita Sandesh, Lord Parshuram, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and others,” Parmar said.

Targeting the previous Kamal Nath-led Congress government in the state, Parmar alleged that during its term, a principal was suspended after a book about the life of Savarkar was distributed in a school.

Congress MLA Arif Masood said it was unfortunate that the Madhya Pradesh government was including Savarkar in the curriculum, saying that the Hindu Mahasabha leader had “written letters to the British and asked for forgiveness”.
