Local club members assault cop when told to stop loud music at DJ party in Tripura, 7 arrested

The Tripura Police Saturday arrested seven persons in Belonia for allegedly assaulting a cop while he was trying to stop loud music being played at a DJ party organised by a local club.

The assault took place Friday night at around 10.30 pm when the officer in-charge of Belonia police station, Shiburanjan Dey, along with a police team, went to the Bankar area in Belonia to stop the DJ party, which was being held without the requisite permissions.

When the police asked the organisers to stop the music, they reportedly started an altercation and assaulted Dey. The injured policeman is being treated at a hospital.

The arrested persons were identified as Subrata Debnath, 45, Liton Debnath, 40, Aditya Datta, 45, Litan Hazari, 45, Alak Banik, 39, Bijay Biswas, 39, and Sribash Sen, 52.

The accused have been booked under Sections 132, 117(2), 121(2), 324(2), 191(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said the police have arrested some of the miscreants.

Meanwhile, Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury said, “There are no words left to condemn the incident. The police should tackle the situation strongly, so that no one can take the law into their hands in future.”
