There was no escalation of military strength at the Chinese side along the international border in Arunachal Pradesh,a top army official said on Tuesday night.
“It’s a political issue,with no military connotation,” Lieutenant General V K Singh,the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command,said about the border issue with China,on the sidelines of a CII programme on defence-industry cooperation.
Talking about local reports that there were army movements along the Sino-Indian border in the North East,he said border crisis was nothing but “a perception.”
“Even if five army vehicles move towards the border,locals will say army is being brought in. It’s just a matter of perception,” Singh said.
His comments came in the wake of China expressing “strong” dissatisfaction over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh about ten days ago for electioneering.
The army official said there was no possibility of any untoward incident during the Dalai Lama’s planned visit to Arunachal Pradesh later this month.
Lt Gen Singh sought industry cooperation to raise Indian defence capability to global standard.
