The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has criticised Maharashtra Government for “underutilisation of funds of National Rural Health Mission and also for not contributing its share of Rs 115.90 crore.”

“Underutilisation of the NRHM funds (28 per cent to 73 per cent) resulted in huge unspent balances. The State Government did not contribute its share of Rs 115.90 crore for the year 2007-08 as required under the scheme,” the CAG report, tabled in state legislature on April 23 said.

The Centre had launched NRHM in April 2005 throughout the country for providing reliable, affordable and accessible health care facilities in rural areas.

Programme Implementation Plans for 2006-07 and 2007-08 were prepared without considering the needs of the districts, blocks and villages.
