A family day for jailed Kanimozhi in New Delhi

Karunanidhi meets Sonia Gandhi whenever he visits New Delhi. It has been the practice ever since the party aligned with Congress in 2004.

Meanwhile,with tears rolling down her eyes,Union Minister M K Alagiri’s wife Kanthi on Monday met her jailed sister-in-law Kanimozhi on Monday,in a bid to console her.trial court here and consoled her.

Kanthi,who arrived here this morning,went to the court along with her son Durai Dayanithi and others to the special CBI court at the Patiala House court complex and they spoke to her for a few minutes.

As soon as Kanimozhi saw Kanthi sitting in the court room,Kanimozhi went straight to her and exchanged pleasantries. But,soon Kanthi broke down in the courtroom.

However,Kanimozhi was looking composed and was talking to Kanthi.

Then,both Kanimozhi and Kanthi went to the gallery where the DMK MP’s mother Rajathi was sitting along with her grandson Aditya.

Kanthi sat between Kanimozhi and her mother Rajathi and was seen talking to them for sometime.

This is for the first time that members of Karunanidhi’s family have met Kanimozhi ever since she was lodged in jail on Friday. Earlier,her mother Rajathi Ammal,had come to meet her in court.

The DMK chief,on the other hand,has not wavered from the spirited defence of Kanimozhi he had given to his party members on Saturday. He had said that her only crime was being a shareholder of Kalaignar TV.

“The arrest is a vendetta against DMK and my family ranging from Kanyakumari to Himalayas”,Karunanidhi said.

However,the DMK patriarch said he was confident of winning the “final war.”

Karunanidhi said it was he who advised Kanimozhi to be a shareholder of Kalaignar TV through the money received from Sun Television Network when his wife Dayaluammal sold her share for Rs 100 crore in October 2005.

Out of this money received from the network,Rs 22.5 crore was paid as tax while the “remaining was shared”,Karunanidhi said without elaborating.

“It was I who asked Kanimozhi to pay her share amount of Rs two crore to become a shareholder of Kalaignar TV. Though she was not inclined,she accepted my advice to be a shareholder of Kalaignar TV. This is the only crime she (Kanimozhi) committed”,Karunanidhi said.

“It is common for a shareholder to be a part of the company’s profits and losses. But they are not responsible for its day-to-day activities,” he had said.
