Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay Wednesday launched a scathing attack on both the BJP at the Centre and the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, accusing them of enacting a “staged drama” over the three-language policy issue. Speaking at an event to mark the party beginning its second year in Chengalpattu district, Vijay alleged that the two parties are in a secret alliance, only pretending to fight in public while colluding behind closed doors.
The event, held at a private resort in Poonjeri near Mamallapuram, drew a significant crowd as Vijay delivered a fiery speech laced with criticism of the state and central governments. “The BJP and DMK are like kindergarten kids fighting,” Vijay said, referring to the “hashtag war” on social media platform X. “Giving funds is the duty of the Centre, and receiving them is the State’s right. This entire charade over the three-language policy is nothing but a well-orchestrated drama.”
Vijay delved into the unpredictable nature of politics, saying, “You never know who will oppose or support whom. They say there is no permanent friend or foe in politics. When someone whom people truly love enters politics, good people will welcome it, but a few will get irritated.” He alleged that those in power were uncomfortable with his party’s growing proximity to the people.
Addressing criticism against the TVK, Vijay pointed out that his party’s young leadership was a strength, not a weakness. “When CN Annadurai and MGR started their parties, weren’t the people behind them young? That’s how they won in the 1967 and 1977 elections,” he said.
Vijay also responded to criticism about the party’s grassroots origins. “Ordinary people have achieved extraordinary things. This is a party for common people, not for landlords,” he said. “Earlier, landlords would enter politics, but now those in politics are becoming landlords. Instead of caring about people’s welfare and development, they only think about money – how to get it through all possible means. Our goal is to eliminate such landlords from politics.”
Vijay reaffirmed Tamil Nadu’s tradition of self-respect and linguistic pride. “We respect everyone. We respect all languages. But if a language is politically imposed on us to disrupt Tamil Nadu’s language policy and violate cooperative federalism, we will oppose it firmly,” he said. “Two sides – the fascists and the opportunists, our political and policy opponents – are playing a staged act on social media with hashtags. What, bro? Very wrong, bro,” he said.
TVK is currently focused on fortifying its organisational structure at the grassroots level, Vijay said. The party plans to host a conference of booth-level agents soon to showcase its strength. He rallied party workers to expand the “TVK family” tenfold in the next 100 days.
Election strategist Prashant Kishor, a special invitee at the event, voiced his support for TVK’s campaign. “For the past 10-15 years, India has been forced to accept the Gujarat model as the ideal model of development. But Tamil Nadu’s model – without corruption, communalism, and dynasty politics – is the perfect model for the state and the country,” Kishor said.
Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, warned of the “unprecedented political corruption” in Tamil Nadu. “No state is worse than Tamil Nadu. While 20% of our citizens live in fear due to communalism, Tamil Nadu has largely held the fort against it,” he said.
Highlighting the need for fresh talent in politics, Kishor said, “Imagine if only Sunil Gavaskar’s descendants could play cricket – how would we have gotten Sachin or Dhoni?”
He added, “Dhoni, who hails from Bihar, is more popular in Tamil Nadu than I am. By next year, I should become more popular than Dhoni here.”
Kishor urged TVK members to embrace the “Three Cs: Courage, Compassion, and Commitment” in their fight against injustice, pledging to return to Tamil Nadu to deliver a victory speech in Tamil after the 2026 legislative assembly elections.
