The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, and rain or thundershower may occur in Lakshadweep and a few other places in Kerala. The IMD also issued a fishermen warning for South Kerala.
Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, will prevail along and off the South Tamil Nadu coast, over the Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area, and over the Andaman Sea and adjoining parts of the Southeast and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal.
A low-pressure area that formed on Sunday over the Southwest Bay of Bengal continues to move westward and fuels moisture that keeps the northeast monsoon active. The IMD says another low-pressure area may develop over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22 and may intensify in the coming days.
Rain levels remain subdued across Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, south interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep, regions that normally benefit from the northeast monsoon season (October–December). As of November 16, Puducherry records a -24% deficit, Kerala -26% and Tamil Nadu -9%.
