In a major crackdown on a terror network in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, the police on Wednesday searched the houses of five local terrorists who have been trying to revive terrorism in the area while staying in Pakistan.

They police identified them as Shahnawaz Kanth alias Munna alias Umer of Hullar, Nayeem Ahmed alias Amir alias Gazi and Javed Hussain Giri alias Muzamil, both of Jamia Masjid mohalla, Mohammad Iqbal alias Bilal of Kichloo Market area, Muzaffer Ahmed of Semna Colony at Zewar, all hailing from Kishtwar.

Kishtwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khalil Ahmad Poswal said the raids were conducted at all the places simultaneously by different teams of J&K Police’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU), formed to investigate terror-related cases.

It had sought orders from the NIA court at Jammu to search the premises of these terrorists who were camping in Pakistan but were active in radicalising local youth to join terror ranks, he added.

Pointing out that they were camping in Pakistan along with 36 terrorists from the Kishtwar district, he said the police had earlier obtained arrest warrants against all of them to approach Interpol for the issuance of a red corner notice against them.
