Voting underway in 6th phase of DDC polls in J&K

Similarly, in Jammu division, Udhampur has recorded voting percentage of 54.69%, Jammu 55.62%, Kathua 50.09%, Ramban 61.91%, Doda 53.39%, Samba 60.61%, Poonch 60.73%, Rajouri 63.07% and Reasi 61.21% till 01:00 pm.

Moreover, the Kashmir division recorded an overall polling percentage of 26.28% while Jammu Division recorded 56.90% up to 1 pm. In the 6th phase of DDC elections, voting is being held in 31 DDC constituencies, 14 from the Kashmir division and 17 from the Jammu division.

2071 polling stations – 1208 in Kashmir division and 863 in Jammu division have been setup in this phase for smooth conduct of elections where 7,48,301 electors (390432 male and 357869 female voters) will exercise their right to franchise.

Polling began at 7 am Sunday. According to UT’s State Election Commissioner K K Sharma, there were long queues at Kore Qasba polling station in Kathua district’s Hiranagar tehsil. Similar reports of long queues at polling stations were coming from other places in the Jammu division.A 93-year-old woman Nanki Devi was among the early voters who cast their ballot this morning at a polling station in Kathua district.

The sixth phase on Sunday will see voting for 31 DDC constituencies. A total of 124 candidates are in the fray from Kashmir and 121 from Jammu division. Nearly 7.5 lakh people are eligible to exercise their franchise at the 2,000 polling stations.
