The woman also claimed she was under pressure and that her husband could face transfer because of the allegations. She could not be contacted for comment. Dangi has denied the charges, alleging that the woman is trying to blackmail him into “leaving his family”.

Dangi said he met her through social media in 2019 and that she was his wife’s beautician. “For a long time, she has been harassing me and extorting money from me. She is blackmailing me. My family is depressed because of her. I’ve been posted in the police academy for nearly three years where I do not have any power to make transfers. If I was harassing her, why did she not complain against me before? Why now?” he said.

The Chhattisgarh Police said a two-member committee has been formed to conduct a departmental inquiry. “Considering the seriousness of the complaints received, a two-member inquiry committee has been formed at Police Headquarters consisting of Dr. Anand Chhabra, IPS-2001, Inspector General of Police, and Mrs. Milna Kurre, IPS-2003, Deputy Inspector General of Police. Based on the report submitted by the inquiry committee, further action will be taken as per the rules,” the department said in a press note.
