The police on Sunday registered a case of fraud against a company under the IT Act after a local alleged that online fraudsters had cheated her of Rs 8,250 by promising her a job in a MNC. The online job scam surfaced after the UT Police found out that the accused had cheated over 40 people in various parts of the country in a similar fashion.

Prerna,a lawyer and resident of Sector 15,has alleged that she was promised a job in Wipro Technologies as an executive manager. She received an email asking her to deposit Rs 8,250 — a refundable amount — as fees for security, air travel and other expenses.

She deposited the amount in the account of one Raj Kumar in Punjab National Bank. When she did not receive any response, she got a case registered. The company had sent Prerna an email from wipro@tech-centre.com. Pro-be has revealed that it was a Dehradun account under a fake address.
