The Director General of Foreign Trade A K Arora and Joint Director (foreign trade) Darshan Singh held a meeting with traders and officials at Attari Integrated Check Post,including BSF and Customs personnel,on Wednesday. They assured the traders to take up their demands at appropriate level for redressal.
Traders also put some proposals and suggestions before the Foreign Trade officials for infrastructure and services development at the Attari ICP. Suneet Kochhar,member CII Punjab State Council and Director Khanna Paper Limited,said: We have suggested that the government should set up a dry port near the ICP and the movement of the trade be through sealed containers.
The traders say that lack of visas is another hindrance to business between both countries. Both sides have asked for easing of visa restrictions.
Kochhar said the issue of India having spent around Rs 160 crore to construct the ICP in about 130 acres of land where as Pakistan was yet to come up with the same strength of infrastructure was also raised in the meeting. Extending of freight corridor up to Attari would be another turning point to enhance trade through ICP with Pakistan, Kochhar said in the meeting.
