Tension in Muzaffarnagar after gunmen injure two Darul Uloom students

The critically injured students were rushed to the Meerut Medical College, where their conditions were later stated to be stable.

Tension prevailed in the communally sensitive Muzaffarnagar district after unidentified gunmen shot at two students of Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband, critically injuring them, here today.

Mohd Mubarik and Abu Azmi were shot at by the motorbike-borne criminals near Barla in Chapar police station area when they were going to the Deoband from Muzaffarnagar on a bike, Senior Superintendent of Police H N Singh said.

The critically injured students were rushed to the Meerut Medical College, where their conditions were later stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, the Darul Uloom Deoband has condemned the incident and demanded strictest action against the culprits.

The Public Relation Officer of Darul Uloom Deoband, Ashraf Usmani, said the attack “is condemnable and we demand strict action against the culprits”. He also alleged that the attack was aimed at disturbing communal harmony of the region.

Police are trying to identify and nab the culprits. However, no arrest has been made so far.
