Even as the Gujarat government is silent on allegations against it of <fontcolor=”#0260a8″>snooping on a woman,the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday came out in its defense,claiming that the state government had no role in awarding the project to Ecolibrium Energy Private Limited owned by woman’s family. Instead,it is the Government of India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy which had given it funds and support.
Senior Gujarat BJP leaders have also remained tight lipped over the snooping issue and allegations of showing <fontcolor=”#0260a8″>favour to the woman’s family by the Gujarat Government. An e-mail sent by BJP spokesperson Dr Harshad Patel read,There have been speculating stories doing the rounds in the media about alleged favours given by Gujarat Government to the firm owned by the kith and kin of the woman alleged to have been provided <fontcolor=”#0260a8″>protection and security by the Gujarat Police. The Government of Gujarat had no role in awarding of the said projects to the said firm. The woman in question and her two brothers-Chintan and Harit Soni- are directors of the firm.
Harshad Patel wrote:
‘Equilibrium Energy Company has not been made any payment by the Government of Gujarat for the Smart Grid Project in the Secretariat. This Smart Grid Project was implemented in the Secretariat by the Torrent Power Ltd. which is a private distribution company responsible for power distribution in Gandhinagar. This Smart Grid Project was being implemented by the Torrent Power Ltd. It was only a Pilot Project and this was completed by 2012.Centre for Incubation,Innovation,Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at IIM,Ahmedabad along with Government of Indias Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) had given incubation support to this company including Seed Funding Support of Rs. 25 lakh under MNRE Programme of GoI.About 6 months back,Government of Indias Solar Energy Centre under the R&D Centre Project has given a project of Rs. 61 lakh for 2½ years for Solar Energy Centre premises.Government of Gujarat has not paid a single penny to the said company for the pilot project. It is an initiative supported by Government of Indias Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.’
Last week,the news portal Cobrapost.com and Gulail released audio tapes involving alleged conversation of former Minister of state for Home Amit Shah and an IPS officer G L Singhal snooping and tracking the woman,along with an IAS officer,on behest of a person to whom Shah referred as ‘saheb’. Pranalal Soni,the woman’s father,has gone on record that he had asked Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to provide protection to her.
