RPI president Ramdas Athawale demanded Tuesday alliance partners Shiv Sena-BJP give around 35 seats to his party to contest in the Assembly polls and four in Lok Sabha elections.

The Sena-BJP-RPI mega alliance came into being about two years ago after Shiv Sena chief the late Bal Thackeray mooted the idea of Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti.

“We have taken the risk of joining the Sena-BJP combine on the insistence of Bal Thackeray,” Athawale said.

“Therefore, with due respect,Shiv Sena and BJP should allot at least 3-4 seats to RPI in Lok Sabha elections and around 35 in Assembly elections. Otherwise,it would become difficult for them to come to power,” he told reporters here.

The RPI leader also asked Sena-BJP to hold coordination meetings to initiate seat-sharing talks.

“There should be no delay in deliberations on seat sharing or else we will have to leave some of our important seats,” he said.

Fadnavis meets Uddhav

Mumbai: Maharashtra BJP president Devendra Phadnavis met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray Tuesday. “The leaders sat in the room of Sena supremo the late Bal Thackeray and had an hour-long meeting. They discussed the future course of the Sena-BJP and RPI alliance,” a Sena source said.
