Amid a raging controversy over Gajendra Chauhan’s appointment as the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor on Friday advised him to retire.
Writing on microblogging site Twitter a day after his son, actor Ranbir Kapooor backed the FTII students who are opposing Chauhan’s appointment, Rishi Kapoor said, “Advice. After all the protests and controversy,Gajendra Chauhan, the FTII Chairman should voluntarily retire. Will do good to the students.”
“If they don’t want you, they don’t want you.By pushing for the chairmanship is getting you no where. Let self pride play a role and retire!”
The students, who have been on strike since early June against the appointment of Chauhan and others, say that there are serious “credibility issues” against the president and several other members of the FTII society.
Erarlier, in a video uploaded on Facebook by the FTII students’ body, Ranbir Kapoor is shown as saying, “Hearing all the things about the appointment of the new chairperson which has been done against the students’ wishes, I think it is only fair that they get what they deserve. They need… to look up to someone with a body of work which they can be inspired by.”
