In order to prevent the spread of diseases like jaundice and gastroenteritis (GI),the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appealed Mumbaikars to stay away from eating roadside food.

“We appeal to people to not eat and drink from the roadside stalls due to hygienic reasons. They are of not good quality. During summer there is rise in the cases of gastroenteritis, jaundice and hepatitis primarily due to unhygienic drinks and food,” BMC Executive Health Officer G T Ambe said.

We understand that people are tempted to have them but they must understand that it invites disease,he said.

The civic body’s License and Health department is jointly taking action against the roadside stalls for not maintaining hygienic conditions.

“We are carrying out joint action on roadside stalls. We seize their handcarts and other materials and they are asked to pay fine for getting it released,” Ambe said.
