A Keralite working in Saudi was among those killed in Hajj stampede in Mina when the pilgrims jostled their way to perform the symbolic stoning of the devil in Mecca.
The victim was identified as Abdurahman, 52, a native of Chelambra in Malappuram. Working with a furniture firm in Riyadh, Abdurahman was settled there for 25 years. He left for the Hajj pilgrimage along with his wife last Saturday. His wife would be informed about the tragedy only after she is done with the symbolic stoning of the devil. Abdurahman’s body would be buried in Mecca. He has two sons and a daughter, said a family source in Malappuram.

Meanwhile, natural deaths of two pilgrims from Kerala were reported from Mina. Aboobacker, 70, of Thalassery in Kannur, collapsed near his tent this morning. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced brought dead. Another pilgrim named Muhammed, a native of Kodungallur in Thrissur, died in a hospital due to heart failure, according to their relatives.
The Kerala Hajj committee chairman Kottumala Bappu Musaliyar said 6,570 pilgrims who had gone through the committee from Kerala, Lakshadweep and Mahe are safe. Hajj volunteers from Kerala have ensured that those who have gone through the committee are safe, said Musaliyar.
