A proposal by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao — to acquire 11 acres of land belonging to the Osmania University (OU) in Hyderabad to construct a housing project for the financially weaker sections of society — has attracted strong criticism from members of the opposition as well as students.

Established in 1918, the OU campus is spread across 1,600 acres. KCR had mooted the proposal to acquire OU’s land while interacting with residents of Parsigutta, a slum colony, on Sunday.

Senior Congress leader Shabbi Ali claimed that KCR had “directed officials to identify and acquire 2,000 acres of land in Hyderabad”. He said,“The CM is suffering from open land phobia. Wherever he sees open land, he comes up with some construction plan”.
