A senior police officer was suspended on Thursday after an inquiry found that he had secretly met controversial businessman Muhammed Nisham, who had rammed his hummer SUV into a security guard in Thrissur earlier this month.
The suspended officer, Jacob Job, is a former city police commissioner of Thrissur. Jacob was the commissioner when Nisham brutally attacked security guard K Chandrabose in Sobha City. While Nisham was in police custody, Jacob took the accused into his office for a secret meeting which lasted for an hour. The commissioner barred the investigating officer and others from entering his office while meeting the accused.

The incident came to light amid strong indications that police and political leaders were working hard to ensure a safe exit for Nisham from the case. Police took Nisham to Bangalore and Tamil Nadu under the guise of gathering evidence although there were no Bangalore links established to the murder which took place in Thrissur. It was alleged that police wanted to ensure that Nisham stayed in jail only for a few days.
On Wednesday, the government announced that the victim’s widow would be provided a job.
