Hyderabad: Placed in the list of probable terror targets, security at the temple towns of Tirumala and Tirupati is being upgraded under a massive project ‘Safe City-Tirupati’, launched by the Andhra Pradesh government.

The cost of the entire security cover is pegged at Rs 50 crore approximately. Among the slew of security measures that are being adopted, Tirumala temple and Tirupati city will be placed under 24×7 surveillance with over 3,000 CCTV cameras. A state-of-the-art command-and-control centre, which has started functioning from Wednesday, will monitor suspicious activity and also keep a tab on touts, agents, cabbies and auto-rickshaw drivers to shield devotees from being cheated. Baggage scanners and explosive detectors are being put up at several places.    ENS
