A Jamshedpur court has sent a notice asking the Maharashtra Police to attach the properties of Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray. The court was acting on a petition filed by local lawyer Sudhir Kumar Pappu. On February 14,Governor Syed Sibtey Razi had given sanction to prosecute Thackeray in a case filed by Hamid Raza Khan, another Jamshedpur lawyer.

The two cases where filed in March 2007 after Thackeray addressed a rally in Mumbai asking North Indians to honour Marathis. After the statement was telecast by TV channels,Pappu sought to lodge an FIR against the MNS chief at the Sonari police station.

When the police station refused to accept the case,Pappu moved the Jamshedpur’s court, which took cognizance under various sections, including non-bailable 153 A (causing animosity between groups),of the IPC and issued a summons to Thackeray.

But Thackeray moved the Jharkhand High Court, which however refused to give any relief. Subsequently, the Jamshedpur court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the MNS chief last December. Thackeray then moved the Supreme Court, which provided relief to him and issued notices on the petitioners asking them to file counter affidavits.

But arguing his case on Tuesday,Pappu told the court that his case was not listed in Thackeray’s petition in the apex court. On this the court issued the notice directing the Mumbai Police to make Thackeray appear before it or paste the notice attaching the property on Thackeray’s house.
