Congress is not looking for any political advantage with the decision to create separate Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, senior party leader and Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on Friday.

“We have not seen any profit for Congress while taking this decision. It was a Congress commitment and we have fulfilled it,” he told reporters when asked whether Congress would be electorally benefited following creation of Telangana.

There have been suggestions that Congress has checkmated its opponents in Telangana and Seemandhra regions and will be electorally benefited following the decision to create Telangana.

On July 30,the Congress Working Committee, the highest decision-making body, decided to recommend to the central government to form the 29th state which will comprise 10 districts.

Following the CWC decision, the Union Cabinet on Thursday decided to go ahead with creation of Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh taking the first legal step for its statehood.
