Coal block allocation case: Ex-MoS’s assets worth Rs 1.86 crore attached

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Monday attached assets worth Rs 1.86 crore of former minister of state for coal Dasari Narayana Rao in connection with its probe into coal blocks allocated to former Congress MP Naveen Jindal’s companies during the UPA government’s tenure.

ED sources confirmed that a provisional attachment order had been issued and assets belonging to Rao worth Rs.1.86 crore — which include a fixed deposit of about Rs 50 lakh, a Mercedes and a Land Cruiser and immovable properties in Hyderabad — were attached Monday in the coal block case. Rao had been summoned by the ED in December last year and his statement recorded.

The ED had slapped money laundering charges against Rao and Jindal, taking cognisance of CBI complaints in coal block allocations.
