With the Delhi Metro expanding its wings beyond Delhi, the CISF will require additional 4,500 personnel to guard the new operations of the mass rapid transport system.

A security assessment report for new Metro routes of neighbouring Noida,Ghaziabad,Gurgaon and Faridabad and the Delhi airport has estimated the strength to man new stations and its immediate vicinities.

The actual numbers would be finalised in consultation with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) but the present requirement is pegged at 4,500 troops, official sources said.

Sources said that the new manpower will have an enhanced women personnel component of around 400 and additional Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) to “cover metro tracks which will be on elevated paths on these new routes”,in times of emergencies like that of a terror strike.

The security audit report has also ascertained the installation of CCTV cameras and surveillance gadgets at new stations which would be brought from the newly earmarked amount of Rs 31 crore for the Metro.

Presently, the Delhi Metro has a sanctioned strength of 3,471 personnel mandated with protection and general security duties.

The DMRC started its services in 2002 and presently runs 70 trains on different routes daily.
