CHANDIGARH: The Haryana police arrested two persons in two separate incidents Sunday and recovered unauthorised weapons and a motor cycle. In the first incident,one Bhagat Singh,wanted in some criminal cases,was arrested from near Juan village after an encounter. The police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest. In the other incident,one Ram Singh alias Ram Chand of Salarpur village in Karnal was arrested on charges of attempt to rape and threaten to kill a 38-year-old woman.
Tributes paid to Mahalanobis
CHANDIGARH: Rich tributes were paid to noted scientist and applied statistician Prof Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis at a state level function organised to mark his birth anniversary Saturday. Speaking on the occasion,Haryana Principal Secretary,Finance and Planning,Sanjeev Kaushal said,statistics could prove valuable in presenting actual picture of development.
Entrance exam for para-medical course
Faridkot: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Sunday conducted entrance exams for Punjab para-medical courses. For the total 4,200 seats in different colleges in the state,only 4,091 candidates have applied. DC Ravi Bhagat and ADC Mohan Lal supervised the arrangements as the vice-chancellor Dr SS Gill was not present in Faridkot.
Police half marathan against drug abuse
SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh on Sunday sought support of the citizens groups to deal with drug menace prevailing among youths in the state. She said this at a function held at end of an annual half marathan organised by the state police on International Day against drug abuse.
