Barelvi cleric snaps ties with SP

Blaming Akhilesh Yadav government for its failure to curb communal forces, Barelvi cleric Tauqeer Raza Khan snapped ties with Samajwadi Party (SP) Saturday. The decision was taken during a meeting of Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC), headed by Raza, at Bareilly.

“It is final now, we have separated our way from SP. We have snapped all our ties with Mulayam’s party,” Raza told The Sunday Express on Saturday. Raza claimed that he has also resigned from the post of Advisor in State Handloom Corporation with the status of minister of state. “I resigned from the post on December 5. I had informed CM Akhilesh Yadav about the decision,” he claimed.
Raza also claimed that since the Akhilesh government failed to control communal forces — like during the Muzaffarnagar riots — he had no choice left. “I told them several times that I had come together only for defeating the communal forces. But, they themselves became communal. There is no control over police and district administration across the state which has turned anti-Muslim. I needed to part ways,” he said.
