The body of a nine-month-old boy was found inside the premises of a government-registered NGO,Delhi Council for Child Welfare (DCCW),in Civil Lines.

The body was found on March 9. Initial examination of the body has revealed “internal injuries”.

The incident was reported by a security official of the NGO for children. He spotted the body near the main gate of the organisation and informed the NGO officials, who called the police.

DCP (North) I B Rani said,“The body has not been identified. The probe is on.”

The nature of the injuries was not clear, but it gave rise to talk of the horrific injuries that had hit the headlines some time back for a battered baby girl, named ‘Falak’ by those treating her.

Sources said a post-mortem examination was conducted at the Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital, and the report is awaited.

An investigation officer said the NGO denied that such a child was staying at their facility.

“We are verifying if this is a case of murder. It is possible that the child died,or was murdered somewhere else, and was dumped inside the gates of DCCW. It is also possible that the person who brought child wanted the DCCW officials to take care of the injured boy,but by the time the he was found, the boy had died,” the officer said

The Child Welfare Committee said they are yet to be informed about the case. “I do not remember any such case being brought to the CWC. I have checked with our officials, but no such case has been referred to us by the DCCW,” said Vimla Paul, chairperson CWC,Kingsway Camp.
