Ajit Singh-led RLD joins hands with BJP

RLD chief Ajit Singh on Monday joined the NDA but declaration regarding the number of Lok Sabha seats the party would contest in alliance with the BJP in Uttar Pradesh during the upcoming polls was held back.

RLD chief Ajit Singh on Monday joined the NDA but declaration regarding the number of Lok Sabha seats the party would contest in alliance with the BJP in Uttar Pradesh during the upcoming polls was held back.

Sources however said that Singh,known as hard bargainer,had secured some 8 seats under the seat sharing arrangement with the BJP.

“Identification and number of seats would be announced in a couple of days. We are wathcing the opposition candidates. There is no dispute. The number has been finalised”,BJP general Arun Jaitley said.

Welcoming Singh in the NDA BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L. K. Advani said that the RLD leader would increase the “alliance index” of the NDA in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls and releive Uttar Pradesh from the BSP-SP brand of politics. NDA convener Sharad Yadav said that with the RLD leader joining the NDA the coalition will acquire a strong “pro-farmer” profile.
