2 held for making fake caps of spurious Scotch whiskey bottles

Police claimed to have smashed a racket of manufacturing fake caps.

With the arrest of two persons,police on Thursday claimed to have smashed a racket of manufacturing fake caps for use in bottles of spurious Scotch whiskey.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police raided a factory at Shastri Nagar recently and arrested Darshan Lal Sharma (83) and Ranjit Sharma (32),Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Chand said.

At their instance,another factory was also searched in the area,the officer said adding,police seized 7100 semi-finished caps and 660 finished caps of Johnny Walker,metal sheets for making caps,a heavy cap making machine and cartons from the two premises.

The regional head of EIPR (Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights) of the Johnny Walker brand also joined the raid at the spot and certified that the caps being manufactured were fake. A case under Copyright Act,IPC section related to cheating and Delhi Excise Act was registered against the duo,police said.
