Just two weeks after he grandly announced the launch of a political forum, Awaaz-e-Punjab, in the run up to the Punjab assembly elections, former Amritsar MP, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday announced that he will not form a full fledged political part as he does not want to divide the anti-incumbency votes of the SAD-led government. He, however, added that he will work for the ouster of Badal-Amarinder nexus.

Sidhu, who had promised a firm announcement regarding his new platform’s political plans in 15 days time at the time of the launch of Awaaz-e-Punjab on September 8 in Chandigarh, on Wednesday said that he has arrived at the decision after pondering over the fluid political situation in Punjab and weighing the pros and cons. “The past is the best prophet to predict the future. The minimum time taken by a new party to win a state is almost two years, ample testimony to the fact that three months is too short a time for this herculean task,”his statement added.
The four time Amritsar MP who recently resigned from the primary membership of BJP added that the battle of the platform is to shake the system that has ruined Punjab. There is no personal or professional vendetta, just a burning desire to place Punjab ahead and reinforce the positive forces. “The forum welcomes any alliance for the betterment of Punjab and will not be a political party. May Punjab, Punjabiat and every Punjabi win,” he said.
The Awaaz-e-Punjab forum has, apart from Sidhu, Jalandhar MLA Pargat Singh, who recently resigned from SAD, and the two independent MLAs from Ludhiana, Balwinder Singh Bains and Simarjeet Singh Bains, asa its initial members.
