On the eve of the monsoon session of Parliament, top Congress leaders went into a huddle Saturday to finalise their strategy. While the party does not intend to stall Parliament, it has decided to aggressively corner the government on many issues — mainly related to the economy and foreign policy.
Importantly, the main opposition plans to join forces with other parties to raise the issue of what it calls “misuse of the office of the Governor”. Sources said the party will raise the imposition of President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and the role played by the Governor in these two states.
With assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh round the corner, Congress sources said the Kairana issue would also figure prominently on the floor of the House.

The meeting at Sonia Gandhi’s residence was attended by Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and Jyotiraditya Scindia, among others.
Sources said the “NSG fiasco”, “mishandling” of Kashmir protests, ties with Pakistan, the flood situation, economic downturn and job creation would figure prominently. “We will not stall but there will be stormy moments since assembly elections are close and no party wants to miss a chance to raise such issues,” a senior leader said.
Sources said Sonia and Rahul will meet Congress MPs on Monday, the first day of the session, to finalise the strategy.
