Fresh from another election victory in the assembly elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hit back at the Opposition, saying the people of the state rejected attempts to mislead them, and the conspiracies. “It is an unprecedented victory despite a joint opposition unleashing violence,” said Banerjee on TMC’s election win.
Unfazed by the recent allegations of corruption against senior party leaders, Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool returned to power for a second consecutive term with the party getting a two-thirds majority in the 294-seat state assembly. The state had seen a spate of violence during the elections leading to the death of several people.

“I thank people of Bengal from bottom of my heart for keeping faith in TMC,” she said. Banerjee, who led a spirited campaign against a united opposition, said that the opposition had spun a web of lies. “People of West Bengal have rejected attempts to mislead them, and the conspiracies. Development will be my priority,’ she said.

Addressing a press conference soon after her win, the Bangal CM said that all the elected members of the TMC will meet at 12.30 hrs tomorrow to elect their leader. On charges of corruption, Banerjee said, “There is no corruption in Bengal. Bengal is a corruption-free state.”
On the contentious Goods and Services Bill which is stuck in the Rajya Sabha as the BJP does not enjoy a majority in the Upper House, Banerjee said, “We have ideological differences with BJP but we will always support on issues that are beneficial to the people. We will support GST.”
