The state government plans to start seven agricultural degree colleges in the state, which would function under the Birsa Agricultural University (BAU), in different districts. The buildings for these degree colleges are ready and teaching is likely to start from the 2017 academic session.
In an official communication issued, Chief Minister Raghubar Das directed the officials to prepare a proposal for recruitments on the teaching and non-teaching posts to these degree Colleges should be sent to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission. Till the time, recruitments are being done, people would be hired on contract basis. Das issued these directions during a meeting of the agriculture department.

The seven Agricultural Degree College, Garhwa, Tilka Manjhi Degree College, Godda, Milk Technology Degree College, Hansdiha (Dumka), Rabindra Nath Tagore Degree College (Deoghar), Agricultural Engineering Degree College (Khuntipani), Chaibasa, and Fisheries Technology Degree College (Gumla).
Additionally, the CM also directed the department concerned to identify 10 most agriculturally important districts and expedite the process of issuing soil health cards that was lagging way behind the target.
The CM also asked the BAU Vice-Chancellor, George John, and other officials to visit Sikkim and apprise themselves about organic farming.
