Indian Coast Guard commissions new vessel at Porbandar

The Indian Coast Guard has commissioned a new vessel at Porbandar Saturday. The 107-tonne vessel, built by M/s Bharti Shipyard, Goa will be based at Pipavav under the administrative and operational control of Commander Coast Guard Region (North-West).

Gujarat’s Chief Secretary GR Aloria commissioned the ship in presence of Inspector General VS Pathania, TM, Coast Guard Commander (NW). The 27.65 meters long vessel is fitted with state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment and can achieve a top speed of 35 knots. It is expected to augment patrolling along the Gujarat’s coast and prevent illicit activities such as infiltration, smuggling and illegal fishing.

“With the commissioning of ICGS C-156, the force level of the Coast Guard has gone up exponentially. The induction is part of ongoing efforts by the Coast Guard to strengthen coastal security along the Indian coastline,” stated an official release here.
