The petitioner, Inderpal Yadav, was sentenced to one-year imprisonment and dismissed from the service by the Coast Guard court earlier this year on charges of procuring illicit liquor and circulating a WhatsApp message saying “Too much of officer Dadagiri”.
On Friday, the Coast Guard headquarters in Kerala were informed that about 80 fishermen were caught in the storm. “Immediately 10 ships and four aircraft were sent in and we were able to rescue all fishermen. ICG ship Samar towed stranded fishing boat Jai Matha along with the crew."
Mark Hughes, a winchman for the coastguard who is known as "Spike", was lowered from the helicopter to save him when he was caught blindsided by a wave. They were winched quickly out of the surf, while two other people were also rescued from a nearby beach.
