Heat wave kills 49 in Telangana, 79 in Odisha

Similarly, in view of the prevailing heat wave conditions, the Odisha government Saturday advised its citizens to stay indoors between 11 AM and 3 PM.

“The temperatures are likely to remain high. As per the MeT department, there are no signs of any improvement in the coming days. Keeping this in view, we have to stay completely prepared. In line with the advisory issued by the Met department, we also recommend people should not show adventurism and should stay indoors, especially between 11 AM and 3 PM,” Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) P K Mohapatra told reporters.

The Telangana government had announced Rs 50,000 as ex-gratia to the kin of those who died due to sun stroke. According to a bulletin issued by India Meteorological Department on Saturday, heat wave conditions are likely to prevail at a few places in Telangana on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile in Jharkhand, Jamshedpur recorded a high of 45.8 degree C, six degrees above normal, while several districts in Jharkhand experienced heat wave conditions.

With 41.5 degree C, Ranchi continued to sizzle while heat wave conditions continued in Palamau (43.8 degree C), Giridih (43), Latehar (42), Lohardga (42), Simdega (42) and Khunti (41), MeT office sources said.

Sahibganj in the Santhal Pargana region experienced 39 degree C.

Dry weather conditions are likely to continue for the next one to five days and heat wave conditions likely to prevail in a few places in the next one to five days in the state, the MeT said in its forecast.
