DMK urges govt to take steps to ensure safe return of Amarnath pilgrims in Kashmir

DMK on July 11 urged the Tamil Nadu government to take all steps to ensure the safe return of about 5,000 Amarnath pilgrims from the state, reportedly stranded in Kashmir.

Party President M Karunanidhi said 5,000 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu were reportedly stranded in Kashmir, which is facing violent protests over the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani by security forces on July 8.

He said they were accommodated in camps where there was a shortage of basic necessities and medicines.

“The Tamil Nadu government should take all steps to safeguard the 5,000 Tamils and ensure their return to the state,” he said in a statement.
