A week after the death of Khuzaima Qutbuddin, once claimant to the position of the spiritual leader of Dawoodi Bohras, his body is set to be brought to Mumbai by the weekend for final rites at Darus Sakina in Thane Sunday.
Qutbuddin (76), who succumbed to throat cancer, had been in the United States for nearly a month prior to his death. He is survived by four sons and five daughters. Son Taher Fakhruddin has been declared by the family as his successor.

Qutbuddin was embroiled in a legal battle with the current Dai al-Mutlaq and his brother’s son Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who succeeded Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin in 2014 following his death. With Qutbuddin’s death, his son is now going to take the legal battle forward.
The family’s spokesperson confirmed on Thursday Fakhruddin’s legal representative would make an application to become the plaintiff after 90 days since Qutbuddin’s death.
In 2014, Qutbuddin had challenged succession of Syedna Mufaddal claiming that he was declared the next Dai al-Mutlaq by his brother, Mohammad Burhanuddin, before his death. He had also shifted from the family’s palatial house at Malabar Hills to his Thane residence following his brother’s death.
Followers of Qutbuddin have now been asked to attend final prayers for him before his burial procession in Thane on Sunday.
