Sitaram Yechury draws parallel with Hitler’s nationalism

“I am drawing that sort of a parallel. It is not alarmist any more. It is actually happening in our country that either you are with us — like George Bush once said very famously or infamously, that either you are with us or you are with them… And who are ‘them’? ‘Them’ means anti-national, not patriotic,” he said. “… Whether it is Hyderabad Central University, whether it is JNU, whether what is happening in Allahabad University today, all this fit into that jigsaw puzzle of the larger objective of metamorphosing the character of our republic,” he said.

Pointing out that the President’s address talks about satyam shivam sundaram, he said, “It has got three Ss… The secret police of Hitler, through which terror was spread, had two ‘Ss’. It was called the SS. Now, the Prime Minister is going one step ahead…”

Raja said, “Don’t argue with them, otherwise they will call you a seditious Indian. They will call everybody seditious Indians… What we confront in India is whether India should remain a democratic republic or India should become a theocratic, fascist raj…. Parliament should take a stand on this. The country has to take a stand on this.”

He alleged anyone questioning the government is dubbed anti-national. “By that logic, even Dr Ambedkar, Gandhi or Netaji could have been declared anti-national… Had they been alive, they would also have been slapped with sedition charges by these powers.” He added that universities and young people are being targeted.
