BSP president Mayawati Friday said she would order a probe into the various economic decisions taken by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in the run up to the state Assembly elections, if voted to power.

“Assessing that his party will not return to power, the CM is taking big economic decisions on a regular basis and they will definitely be probed by the BSP government. Now when the polls are just round the corner, he is enacting ‘drama’ to woo different sections of society and making announcements,” Mayawati said in a statement.

She said that the government’s decision to raise honorarium of gram pradhan from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 and distribution of the ruling SP’s poll material in the form of steel plates and glasses to school children was “aimed at gaining cheap publicity.”

She also demanded action against the officials responsible for alleged under-reporting of dengue-related deaths in the state. Mayawati said the state government has accepted in the Allahabad High Court that officials acted with “negligence and in lackadaisical manner” in their response to the dengue outbreak and legal action should be initiated against those who are guilty. She said while the government has admitted that 113 persons died because of dengue, there are reports that as many as 219 persons have died in Lucknow alone and there are long queues of patients outside the hospitals. After being rapped by the HC, Akhilesh had directed officials to launch a campaign in every district to check the disease.

Taking a dig at the alleged family feud in Samjawadi Party, Mayawati added that the CM should take out some time and concentrate on people’s sufferings.
