After surgical strike, BSF jawan Rai Singh third Haryana soldier to be killed in Pakistan firing

Earlier on October 24, a BSF constable Sushil Kumar from Pehowa in Kurukshetra district was martyred in heavy shelling by Pakistani rangers along the international border in Jammu. Thereafter, on October 28, Sikh Light Infantry’s 27-year-old sepoy Mandeep Singh’s body was mutilated in Macchil sector by Pakistani militants infiltrated the border under cover fire from Pakistani rangers. Mandeep Singh was a native of Antehri village of Kurukshetra district.

Rai Singh’s elder brother, Ramesh Kumar (48) retired as Havaldar from the BSF in April this year. Speaking to The Indian Express from Rohtak, Ramesh informed, “It was around 1.30 am today when we got a call from the BSF that Raj Singh has martyred in the cross-border firing around 12 midnight.” He said that the BSF authorities have informed the family that the deceased soldier’s body would be first flown from Jammu to Delhi in an Indian Air Force aircraft around 4.00 pm and thereafter it would be brought to his native village by road.

Belonging to a family of soldiers, Ramesh said, “Out of four brothers, we two were in BSF. Rai Singh had completed around 21 years of service.” Ramesh, who himself served in Kashmir region, added, “Pakistan to ek kutte ki dum ki tarah ha, jo kabhi sidhi nahi ho sakti. Kitne jawan shaheed honge is tarah ? Kitne auratein vidhwa hongi ? Kyun na Bhartiye sena ko aar-paar ki ladai ka seedha mauka diya jaye?” As the news of Singh’s death spread today morning, people started visiting his house to extend condolences to the grieving family members.
