In the wake of a spate of attacks on migrants, especially from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, in Gujarat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday sought to reassure people, saying Gujarat is a “mini India” where everyone is secure and respected.
He termed the attacks against Hindi-speaking migrants in his state as “politically motivated and a planned conspiracy of the Congress”.
Speaking at an event in Lucknow on Monday, Rupani said: “Hum sablog Bharat mata ki santan hain, Uttar Pradesh ho, Gujarat ho… Hum sab ek hain. Is ekta ko todne ke liye Bharat virodhi tatva kaam kar rahe hain (We are all children of Mother India, be it UP or Gujarat… We are all one… Those against this unity are working to destroy it).”
Crediting the hard work of people from UP and Bihar for helping Gujarat develop, the Chief Minister said, “Gujarat has been progressing as people from UP, Bihar, Odisha and Maharashtra have all played a part,” he said.
“Yeh Gandhi ka Gujarat hai, Yeh Patel ka Gujarat, Modi ji ka Gujarat hai. Bharat ke sab vasiyon ka laghu Bharat Gujarat hai… Yahan Bharat ke sabhi wasion ka samman, suraksha hai… Gujarat ne sabko sambhala hai (Gujarat is of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Narendra Modi. It is a mini-India. Here every citizen of the country is respected, given security… Gujarat has taken care of all).”
Rupani, who was in Lucknow to personally invite his UP counterpart to the inauguration of the Statue of Unity on October 31, later accused the Congress for the attacks on the migrants during a joint press conference with Yogi Adityanath.
Without naming Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor, who has been accused by the ruling BJP for inciting anti-migrant protests in Gujarat following the rape of a 14-month-old girl allegedly by a labourer from Bihar, Rupani said: “It was a planned conspiracy of (a) Congress MLA… Elections are slated in four states and the ‘Statue of Unity’ is all set to be unveiled… Therefore, Congress tried to create problems. But the Gujarat government foiled all such efforts and there is complete peace in the state now.”
Rupani said that his government took strict measures and normalcy has returned in the state, after it was hit by a spate of attacks on Hindi-speaking migrants, mostly from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. “At least 715 people have been arrested of which more than 50 are Congressmen… About 76 people were arrested for spreading incendiary messages on social media and many of them were from the Congress party,” he said, adding that over 63 cases have been filed. He also claimed that no untoward incident has taken place in the state for the past several days.
Rupani also said that legal action will be taken against the Congress MLA for inflammatory speech.
In an oblique reference to Shaktisinh Gohil, Rupani said incidentally a Congress leader, who is the in-charge for party affairs in Bihar, is talking about “throwing Biharis out”.
Gohil is the AICC in-charge for Bihar. He also asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi to take action against the leader.
Congress workers Sunday tried to show black flags to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on his visit to UP.
