‘France lost a dear friend from India’: French President Macron condoles Ratan Tata’s death

Ratan Tata, who was 86 years old, passed away after a prolonged illness on late Wednesday night at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital.

As the last rites of Tata Sons’ Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata was conducted with full state honours at a Mumbai crematorium, French President Emmanuel Macron condoled the demise of business mogul and said that “France lost a dear friend from India”.

Ratan Tata, who was 86 years old, passed away after a prolonged illness on late Wednesday night at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital. He was admitted to the hospital a couple of days ago to undergo medical examinations which was said to be a regular age-related check-up.

The outpouring of grief to the news of the sad demise of Ratan Tata had started and now, French President Emmanuel Macron has posted his condolence message on social media.

“France has lost a dear friend from India. Ratan Tata’s visionary helmsmanship contributed to boosting industries in India and France, in the fields of innovation and manufacturing. Beyond this, his legacy will be marked by his humanist vision, immense philanthropic achievements and his humility,” said the French President.

President Macron added, “I convey my deepest condolences to his near and dear ones as well as to the people of India. We will remember your lifelong commitment to the betterment of society with admiration and respect.”

In a post on social media which eventually became his last, Ratan Tata said, “There is no cause for concern. Thank you for thinking of me…” But it was later announced that Padma Vibhushan recipient Tata had passed away.

Tata Group’s Chairperson, N Chandrasekaran in a statement said, “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.”

The Maharashtra government had announced a day of mourning as a symbol for respect towards the philanthropist and business tycoon Ratan Tata.
