President Droupadi Murmu to hold first governor’s conference next week
Officials say the agenda of the Conference includes implementation of three criminal laws; reforms in higher education and accreditation of universities.

President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the Conference of Governors on August 2 and 3, 2024 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This is the first Conference of Governors to be presided over by President Murmu.
Besides governors from all states who have been invited for the conference, it will be attended by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar; Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers of Home Affairs; Agriculture and Farmers Welfare; Education; Tribal Affairs; Information and Broadcasting; Environment, Forest and Climate Change; and Youth Affairs and Sports; Vice Chairman and CEO of NITI Aayog and other senior officials from PMO, Cabinet Secretariat, MHA and other Ministries will also participate, said a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday.

There will also be discussions centred around the development of focus areas like tribal areas, aspirational districts and blocks and border areas. The role of governors in campaigns like ‘MYBharat’, ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and ‘Ek Vriksha Maa ke Naam’ will also be discusses, besides issues such as natural farming; enhancing public connect; and role of governors in better coordination between various central agencies in the state.
Governors will deliberate these agenda items in various breakaway groups, officials added.
In the concluding session on August 3, these groups will make presentation before the President, Vice President, Prime Minister and other participants.
Late on Saturday evening, President Murmu had appointed new governors in nine states and a new lieutenant governor in Puducherry.

Former Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde was appointed governor of Rajasthan while former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma was named as Governor of Telangana.
The President also appointed former Rajya Sabha MP Om Prakash Mathur as Governor of Sikkim.
